At the end of July 2024, Animals Worldwide received distressing news from our contacts in the Philippines: a powerful hurricane had torn through the region, causing widespread destruction. Among those impacted were the dedicated team at Woofgang Kennels, where the storm completely destroyed the kennels and surrounding grounds.
Rescue operations began immediately as local volunteers and animal welfare groups rallied to save the animals in crisis. Tragically, 15 dogs lost their lives in the disaster. We honour their memory and the love and care they received from the Woofgang team.
Despite this heartbreaking loss, the vast majority of the dogs were rescued, and efforts have since been focused on ensuring their safety and long-term care. Thanks to the tireless work of local teams, more substantial and secure accommodation has now been found, allowing the animals to begin a new chapter in a safer environment.
Animals Worldwide is committed to supporting the recovery. We are currently in the process of sending emergency funding to aid in rebuilding efforts, securing veterinary care, and providing food and shelter for the rescued animals. These funds will also help Woofgang and its partners prepare better for future disasters, with a focus on building resilience and long-term infrastructure.
This tragedy highlights the vulnerability of animals during natural disasters and the urgent need for continued support. We are proud to stand in solidarity with our partners in the Philippines, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who is helping these animals find safety, comfort, and a second chance.
