At Animals Worldwide, we often receive messages that remind us why we do this work — but few are as powerful and emotional as the one we received from Oksana Savitskaya, who is working under extraordinary circumstances to protect animals in war-torn Ukraine.
Following our £500 grant, Oksana and her team were able to purchase much-needed medical food for animals struggling in extreme heat and post-conflict conditions.
She wrote:
“With great gratitude for your trust and help, we report a photo of the receipt for the purchase of medical food and a photo of the purchased product and the process of its use for the stated purpose.
The bottles in the photo – this is how we save animals from high temperatures, with bottles with ice in the rooms. We have a terrible heat now.”
This simple but vital practice — using frozen water bottles to cool rooms — is a reminder of how, even with limited resources, ingenuity and compassion can save lives.
But it was her words that truly moved us:
“Let me say that you are simply incredible people, whose kindness and compassion knows no bounds.
Your concern for these little creatures suffering because of the war is very inspiring and touching.Because it is very difficult to live in a country that is being destroyed, trying to somehow save a part of its world — and receive polite refusals when pleading for help, with refined words and sincere wishes… to find help somewhere else.
And you didn’t look for fancy excuses to refuse — you immediately helped. It’s just incredible. Thank you from all our hearts — from all our people and animals. ❤️💛💙”
