Animals Worldwide is proud to be providing long-term support for animal welfare projects in Liberia, with a special focus on donkeys and cattle — two species that play a crucial role in the lives and livelihoods of local communities.
From 2023 through to 2034, our organisation has committed funding to a range of initiatives across the country, aimed at improving the welfare of working animals, especially in rural and underserved areas. These projects are implemented in close partnership with local animal welfare groups, veterinary teams, and community leaders.
Why Liberia?
Liberia is a country rebuilding after decades of conflict and economic challenges. While human development rightly remains a priority, animal welfare often receives limited attention and funding. Yet, animals — particularly donkeys and cattle — are central to the economy and rural life.
Donkeys are heavily relied upon for transporting goods, water, and agricultural produce across long distances, often in extreme heat and on rough terrain. Meanwhile, cattle provide essential resources such as milk, meat, and labor for farming. Unfortunately, these animals are often overworked, underfed, and lack access to basic veterinary care.
In many areas, there are no formal animal welfare services. Injuries go untreated, diseases spread unchecked, and animals suffer from preventable conditions due to lack of awareness or resources.
A Call to Action
Animal welfare is an essential part of sustainable development. Healthier animals mean stronger communities — and every donkey or cow that receives care and kindness is a step toward a more compassionate future.
We are deeply committed to our work in Liberia, and grateful to all of our supporters who make this possible. If you’d like to help us continue this mission, please consider donating or sharing our work.
Together, we can ensure that no animal is forgotten — in Liberia or anywhere in the world.
